This 5-week program is designed to introduce your child to dancing, singing, acting & improvisation by creating a Musical Review from the ground up. The program will culminate in two performances for the public. Whether you are a dancer, singer, actor, “triple threat,” or have never performed at all, there is a spot waiting for you! Training and performances provide participants with the opportunity to work with members of the Weymouth Alumni Theater Company.
A Taste of Broadway Update
The Show Must Go On!
We are thrilled to offer an update on this year’s “A Taste of Broadway” program. In the classic words of the theater, “the show must go on!” …with proper social distancing measures in place, of course.
Due to the current situation, “A Taste of Broadway” has been forced to make some changes to ensure that this program happens for your children and our community. These changes are outlined below. Please know that all participants that were already registered or were placed on the waitlist were automatically added to the new program and there is no need to re-register. If you no longer wish for your child to participate this summer, please reach out to Weymouth Recreation.
New Location – All programming will now take place at the beautiful pavilion at King Oak Hill Park next to the Emery Estate (0 Emery Lane, Weymouth, MA 02189). This open-air, roof covered pavilion provides electrical lighting, bathroom facility access, and space for proper social distancing.
Updated Dates/Times – In order to provide proper social distancing, days/times have been adjusted for “A Taste of Broadway!” Our programming begins Tuesday, June 30th and runs through Saturday, August 1st. The dates/times for the final week (Mon, July 27 – Sat, Aug. 1st) are TBD based on health guidelines at that time.
o Entering Grades 1-4: Tuesdays and Thursdays 5:45-6:30pm
o Entering Grades 5-8: Tuesdays 6:45-8:00pm and Wednesdays 5:45-6:45pm
o Entering Grades 9-12: Wednesdays 7:00-8:00pm and Thursdays 6:45-8:00pm
Final Show – We are hopeful for a properly socially distanced, outdoor performance on Saturday, Aug. 1st (Time TBD). Additionally, all participants will receive a DVD of every number from this year’s performance, as well as a special issue “A Taste of Broadway” t-shirt at no additional cost to participants. There will be no costuming requirements for this year’s program, as participants will wear their “A Taste of Broadway” t-shirt for the performance.
